Berrings N.S is a mixed Catholic Primary School in the parish of Inniscarra Co. Cork. The Patron of the School is the Bishop of Cloyne. The School has a long tradition of educational excellence and is committed to providing a curriculum which best meets the needs of all the pupils.
The school wishes to nurture responsible, capable, caring individuals in a Christian environment who respect themselves and others. We will enable each child to develop his/her self-esteem and achieve his/her full potential within a positive, happy, secure and healthy school environment.
The school and its staff value its partnership with parents in meeting the personal and educational requirements of pupils and staff alike.
Vision
We in Scoil Náisiúnta Bhiorainn support the philosophy of education based on three general aims of primary education as stated in the Curaclam na Bunscoile:
- To enable the child to live a full life as a child and to realise his potential as a unique individual.
- To enable the child to develop as a social being through living and co- operating with others and so contribute to the good of society.
- To prepare the child for further education and lifelong learning.
It is our wish that the school’s total curriculum acknowledges the variety of needs and learning abilities among the pupils and endeavours to strike a balance between an academic core and the provision of a wide range of other important learning experiences including information technology, sport and the arts.
We recognise that the overall growth of the child best takes place in a positive learning environment, where the atmosphere is one of openness and friendliness. This will enable children to develop personally and socially and to relate to others with understanding and respect. Within each class and throughout the school, we strive to create a strong sense of community so that no child feels alienated or marginalised at school.
We acknowledge the Catholic traditions in our school and we value the sacramental preparation programmes for the First Holy Communion and for Confirmation. Acknowledgement and respect is given to all other values, aspirations and beliefs.
We nurture and develop in the children a respect for and an appreciation of cultural and ethnic differences as citizens of a global community.
The parents are the primary educators of their children and the school is where the professional educators complement the work of the home. In recognition of this fact, the school seeks to maintain friendly collaboration and a good working rapport with all parents. The child’s balanced growth and development, not just the academic progress, is the focus of such collaboration.
Tá áit faoi leith ag teanga agus cultúr na Gaeilge í dtraidisiún na scoile. We recognise the place of Irish language and culture in the traditions of our school.
It is the wish of Scoil Náisiúnta Bhiorainn that each pupil should leave this school with a positive awareness of self, a sense of personal and social responsibility and with the knowledge, skills and attitudes which are conducive to a satisfactory life and to the growth and development in the future.
